Bread & Butter is a micro-bakery in beautiful Kimberley BC — and we love sharing our love for ancient grains, fresh ingredients, and beautiful food.


In our little shop in the mountains, we make artisanal sourdough bread, nutritious (yet decadent!) pies and treats, and mixes for healthy baked goods that you can create in your own kitchen. (We’ll even walk you through the process!)



We’re all about savouring good food with our loved ones, and building strong, reciprocal relationships that ground us into our community. These passions have us leaping out of bed every morning to fire up the ovens, so we can share that love with you!

Good food is fuel for a good life. 

(And we’re all about the good life.)

We have a lot of fun around here — but we take our commitment to quality food seriously.

Our baking uses only organic whole grains, sourced ethically and as locally as possible, that we grind ourselves into flour so fresh, it’s alive.

The result? Delicious bread and treats that are low in glucose and high in nutrients, to fuel all your adventures.

So sure, it might just be a delicious scone on a sunny afternoon, or a slice of bread with breakfast. But to us, it’s so much more: it’s a little contribution to the future we all want to see.

Low waste, high quality.

We run our bakery as close to zero-waste as we can. We aim for impact over perfection: lessening waste and emissions where we’re able to, and staying curious about where we can do even better. 

Sam and Dan are the founders of Bread & Butter Kimberley, and the lead bakers whose creative vision guides all our endeavours.



Oh, and they’re also married — with a sweet little babe named Charlie who hangs out in the kitchen!

Sam and Dan’s love for each other — and for all things sourdough — began in Thunder Bay, Ontario. They made the trek west together in 2014, to be nearer to Dan’s family and to experience living in the mountains.

 

Needless to say, they absolutely loved it. Sam and Dan fell in love with their new home, surrounded by evergreen forests, cold rivers, and a tight-knit community of wonderful people.

In the early days of Bread & Butter, Sam and Dan converted their garage into a home bakery, where Dan baked bread. Sam delivered the goods on her big commuter push bike — pedaling around town in rain, shine, or snow, with dozens of loaves bursting from the panniers. (It was a sight to behold!)

 

While there’s something sweet about hand-delivering sourdough, it wasn’t long until Bread & Butter had a growth spurt — and we moved out of the garage and into a sweet (and tiny!) storefront that we shared with a gelato shop.

 

But the growth didn’t end there: after a couple years, we realized we needed even more space, and we renovated our spacious new bakery right in the downtown core of Kimberley. (Sam and Dan have now fulfilled their long-held dream of baking side-by-side!)

We can’t wait to share our creations with you.
